プロフィール

東京藝術大学附属音楽高等学校を経て同大学ピアノ科卒業。在学中、ブダペストのリスト音楽院にて一年間研鑽を積む。
2013年より英国王立音楽院ピアノ科修士課程へ同音楽院よりグローヴァー・ベネット奨学金(同音楽院の奨学金)を受けて留学。修士一年目に最高位により、モード・ホーンズビー賞受賞。2015年、Dip RAM、ウォルター・マクファーレン賞、及びナンシー・ディッキンソン賞を授与され、首席で修士課程修了。 2016年、ディプロマ課程中最高位となる Advanced Diplom を審査員満場一致で取得(日本人 及び ピアノ科初)。

これまでにピアノを故 松浦豊明、渡辺健二、クリストファー・エルトン、室内楽をマイケル・ドゥセク、鍵盤楽器史/古楽器奏法をキャロル・セラシ、ジャズ/即興法をドミニク・オールディス、音楽学を一柳富美子、ロデリック・チャドウィックの各氏に師事。

PIARAピアノコンクール全国大会中学の部優勝及び全部門グランプリ受賞。これを機に15歳でデビューし、東京フィルハーモニー交響楽団などとピアノ協奏曲共演。その後、ミラベル宮殿、シューベルトの生家などでリサイタル、ハンガリー国立歌劇場管弦楽団メンバーとのピアノ三重奏曲など活動の場を広げ、ヨーロッパ最大規模の音楽施設サウスバンク・センターで現代音楽祭「The Rest is Noise」に出演、ロンドンデビュー。

現在、日本とロンドンを拠点にヨーロッパ各地で精力的な活動を展開する傍ら、英国王立音楽院にて指導助手、東京藝術大学音楽学部附属高等学校スーパーグローバル化計画のアシスタント及び学長補佐も務める。
日本人初のヤング・スタインウェイ・アーティスト。

Japanese pianist Yuko Sano had her recital debut in Tokyo at the age of 15 to an audience of 1200.
She has won both the 1st prize and Grand Prix at the PIARA Piano Competition, the highest award at the Burckhardt International Piano Competition, and 1st prize at the Composition Competition in Tokyo, amongst others.
She has performed across Europe and the UK, as well as in Japan, including solo appearances with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. In October 2013, she made her London debut at the Southbank Centre for the festival ‘The Rest is Noise’.
Yuko Sano graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai) after studying at the Liszt Music Academy in Budapest.
In 2013, she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music, where she completed her MA with a Dip RAM distinction for an ‘outstanding final recital’ and graduated with the Walter Macfarren Prize, the Nancy Dickinson Award, and the Maud Hornsby Award. In 2016, she completed her Advanced Diploma at the Academy under the tutelage of Christopher Elton.
During the last year, she contributed to the success of the first Super Global Highschool Project by coordinating an exchange programme between The Music High School attached to the Tokyo University of the Arts’ Faculty of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, and The Purcell School in London, supported by the Japanese Government.
Yuko Sano was the first and only Young Steinway Artist from Japan, 2018 she is Steinway Artist.
