Andreas Haefliger was born into a family of Swiss musicians and grew up in Germany, the son of the famous tenor Ernst Haefliger. At the age of 15, he entered the Juilliard School in New York, where he quickly gained prominence. In the United States, he has performed with major orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Chicago Symphony, and the San Francisco Symphony.
