Profile
Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and its graduate school. Studied under the late Jun Date and Toyoaki Matsuura. Selected for the 38th Japan Music Competition. Received the Ataka Prize and the Kreutzer Prize. Studied at the North West German Academy in Detmold, then studied under K. Shilde at the Berlin University of the Arts. 17th Long-Thibaud International Competition 2nd place in 1977. In 1978 and 1979, he served as an assistant at the Berlin University of the Arts, and has performed throughout Europe. He has performed with NHK Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Sakkyo Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Nine Symphony Orchestras, and Bach Solisten of Germany. From 1986 to 2005, he held a total of 27 "Katsumi Ueda Beethoven Series". In addition to being a soloist, he is also active in chamber music. Currently professor at Tokyo University of the Arts and Dean of the Faculty of Music.
