Born in Cyprus. Called a child prodigy from an early age, he performed Haydn's concerto at the age of eight. At the age of 12, he was a soloist at La Scala in Milan and conducted La Traviata at a music festival. At the age of 13, he moved to London, where he studied at the Royal Academy of Music from the age of 16 and graduated at the top of his class. After that, he moved to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. After winning the Munich and Geneva International Piano Competitions, he has performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresden State Opera Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and others. He has worked with many famous conductors such as John Barbirolli, Paavo Berglund, Adrian Boult, Semyon Bychkov, Kurt Masur, Neville Marriner, Roger Norrington, Kurt Sanderling, and Simon Rattle. .
To date, he has released over 50 CDs, including Chopin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 with the Philharmonia Orchestra, and Braves Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 with the London Philharmonic, especially with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Rachmaninov's Concerto No. 2 and Paganini Rhapsody with , became EMI bestsellers and won the Golden Disc Award in 1994. In addition, the complete works of Mozart for piano, the complete works of Debussy, and the complete works of Janáček have been released. In 1975, as an expert on Schubert, he completed the unfinished composition of the piano sonata, which was published by the Vienna Original Edition. In 1985, the BBC recorded all of Schubert's piano sonatas at Wigmore Hall, and in 1996 a CD was released by EMI. In 2011, he received the Nemitas Foundation Award for Best Music, which is given to people who have made outstanding achievements in the fields of art and science.
He currently teaches at Trinity Laban Conservatoire University and gives masterclasses and music festivals in the UK and across Europe. In 2018, the complete Beethoven piano works will be released.
