Profile

Born in Maribor, Yugoslavia in 1946. After graduating from the Conservatoire de la Conservatoire in Paris at the top of his class at the Conservatory of Music in Ljubljana, he has been active as the principal player of the Ljubljana Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Orchester du Colonne de Paris. Since 1971 he has been a soloist with the Bern Symphony Orchestra and since 1977 with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. During that time, he achieved brilliant results in various competitions, and in 1974 he won the Munich International Competition, and his name became widely known around the world. In 1980, he quit the orchestra and devoted himself to solo activities and teaching younger generations. In addition to being a professor at the Cologne University of Music, the Bern Conservatoire, and since 1986 at the Freiburg University of Music, he has actively conducted master classes in Europe, the United States, and Japan, and has produced many excellent pupils around the world. In addition to solo and quartet, he approaches chamber music with an intelligent musicality and is actively developing performance activities. He has made many recordings and published instructional books, and boasts overwhelming popularity as a pioneering solo trombonist.
