Transnational Design Bryce Dessner

When we talk about classical music, where does contemporary music stand?

I'm sure there are many people who think that 21st century music is not classical! However, within the long-standing tradition of Western music, a "new classical" music is being born that incorporates rock and techno.

This time we would like to introduce Bryce Dessner, one of the most cutting-edge composers born in America.

What exactly is this "crossing of the border between indie rock and classical music" that he is doing?

Bryce Dessner is the gardener of the New York music scene!

Born April 23, 1976, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, he is a guitarist and composer. He is the lead guitarist for the indie rock band "The National" and writes and directs for the band, but is also an avid classical composer.

Indie rock is an anti-industrial movement that originated in the 1970s in England, and was born in opposition to the popular music and commercial rock music of the time. They sought "their" music, newer musical expressions.

Dessner's style is in the same vein as Steve Reich, the pioneer of minimal music, and he stands out in the New York contemporary music scene. He transcends the boundaries between pop and classical music, and he seems like a "gardener" who beautifully prunes the various branches of Western music.

Bryce Dessner: Trombone Quintet arrangement. This is the arrangement that will be used for this tour.

For this concert, the first movement of the Trombone Concerto, composed for Van Rijen in 2020, will be performed in an arrangement for the Alma Quartet and trombone.

Only those who come to the concert can understand the difference between listening to it digitally through a screen or listening to it live.
